Green Capital Namibia is spearheading the development of renewable energy projects in the country, with a project pipeline exceeding 200 MW, as part of its drive to bolster Namibia’s clean energy capacity.

The company, which commenced operations in 2023, is also setting its sights on one of the region’s largest green hydrogen initiatives, aiming to position Namibia as a leader in sustainable energy.

Green Capital Namibia is the local unit of the Polish renewable energy company Green Capital, which began its activity in the renewable energy sector in 2008, designing and building wind farms and participating in the development of approximately 400 MW of wind turbines. The parent company has recently expanded its activities to other markets in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

“Since starting operations in Namibia, Green Capital has made significant progress toward supporting the country’s renewable energy ambitions. Among its milestones, the company submitted three-generation license applications to the Electricity Control Board (ECB),” the company said.

Focusing on photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy projects, Green Capital’s development efforts are bolstered by a team of seasoned experts exploring innovative solutions for sustainable energy production.

One of its flagship projects, a PV solar plant at the Gerus Substation near Otjiwarongo, received regulatory approval in October 2024.

Construction is slated to begin in mid-2025 under the supervision of Project Manager Tiofilia Nunyango.

In addition, Green Capital is leveraging Namibia’s Modified Single Buyer (MSB) Framework to expand energy production, enabling regional businesses to access affordable and sustainable energy while reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy security.

The company’s green hydrogen ambitions are also taking shape with two advanced projects in Namibia, focusing on green ammonia production for both local use and export markets. One of these initiatives has been named a flagship project under the European Union’s Global Gateway program, which aligns with the UN Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement. The program seeks to mobilize €300 billion for innovative, sustainable global projects.

“We plan to continue expanding our initiatives in wind farms, photovoltaic farms, and hybrid green hydrogen production projects in the coming years. Our commitment is to deliver transformative projects that pave the way for a cleaner, greener future,” Green Capital said.
