Total Energies Marketing Namibia is switching to clean sources of energy such as solar energy at its service stations across the country.

The project, which is only targeting company owned sites, is expected to diversify energy supply, and reduce the service stations dependency on the grid, while providing cost savings against rising electricity prices.

“This is a project that we have had in the pipeline for some time now and we have plans of executing it over the course of next year,” TotalEnergies Marketing Coordinator Patricia Heita told The Brief.

“The project will commence at the end of this year across three sites, namely: Outjo, Windhoek and Ondangawa.”

This comes as the French multinational integrated energy and petroleum company is planning to solarize 5 000 service stations in 57 countries.

Heita was, however, tight lipped on the cost implication of the solar installation project by the energy company which is targeting 16 sites.

Total Energies Namibia which operates a network of close to 40 service stations in Namibia, retailing fuel and lubricant products, has more than 30 affiliates, and is the world’s fourth largest distributor of lubricants and the leading distributor of petroleum products in Africa.

The energy company operates 50 production sites worldwide where it manufactures the lubricants, bitumen, additives, special fuels, and fluids that sustain its growth,” said

Namibia TotalEnergies supplies individual vehicle owners, small business enterprises, the agricultural sectors and has a significant share in the mining sector, supplying all Hydrocarbons.

The company’s exploration and production department has made successful developments at the orange basin following drilling operations earlier this year.

TotalEnergies, alongside QatarEnergy, and Impact Oil and Gas have also announced the Venus-1X discovery, located approximately 290 kilometres off the coast of Namibia, in the deep-water offshore exploration Block 2913B, which covers approximately 8,215 km².

Total opened its doors in 1977 in the then-South West Africa. Later the Company was registered in 1988 as Total Namibia (Pty) Ltd and in 2021 changed to TotalEnergies Marketing Namibia.
