The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global offshore energy contractor Subsea7, aimed at advancing offshore infrastructure development in Namibia’s burgeoning oil and gas sector.
The agreement comes in the wake of recent offshore energy discoveries, and is expected to facilitate knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and the development of a skilled and technically proficient local workforce.
NAMCOR said the collaboration would “drive innovation, enhance safety, and support the sustainable growth of Namibia’s energy industry”.
The state-owned company further noted that the partnership would boost its capabilities in managing complex subsea development projects, including Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF).
“Through this agreement, NAMCOR is positioned to leverage Subsea7’s extensive expertise and innovative technologies to deliver lower-carbon and sustainable energy developments,” the company added.
Acting Managing Director of NAMCOR, Victoria Sibeya, described the agreement as a milestone for Namibia’s energy ambitions.
“These partnerships are designed to create synergies within the industry to better guide us as we grow the nascent oil and gas sector,” Sibeya said.
“We are excited to be at the forefront of value creation in Namibia’s energy landscape.”
Subsea7’s Vice President of Pursuits for Namibia, Steve Tate, also welcomed the agreement, emphasising its long-term importance to the country’s offshore development goals.
“This MoU marks the beginning of a strong, long-term relationship with NAMCOR, and is pivotal in advancing the nascent energy sector in Namibia,” Tate said.
The partnership is part of a broader strategy by NAMCOR to strengthen its role in upstream operations and to ensure that Namibia not only attracts foreign investment but also builds the internal capacity necessary to manage and benefit from its energy resources.
