Kaoko, Impact Hydrogen to develop clean energy stove

Kaoko Green Energy Solution has partnered with Netherlands-based Impact Hydrogen to develop a gas stove that will make use of green hydrogen.

The two companies inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) earlier this week for a collaborative framework on HyCooker Usage, Production, Sustainable Development and Investment Opportunities in Namibia.

This was on the sidelines of the official joint working visit of Prime Ministers, Mette Frederiksen of Denmark and Mark Rutte of Netherlands, who were in the country to sign deals on green hydrogen, trade, tourism, energy and infrastructure.

“We have joined forces to develop a groundbreaking solution that aims to directly benefit the common man in Namibia through a green hydrogen stove (cooker). This is after recognising the need to empower individuals at a grassroots level and bridge the gap between green hydrogen production and everyday living,” Kaoko Chief Executive Officer Gerson Nasau said.

“Together, these companies have set their sights on developing a revolutionary hydrogen gas stove specifically designed for cooking purposes. By harnessing the power of green hydrogen, this innovative stove will not only provide a sustainable and efficient cooking solution, but will also democratise the benefits of the hydrogen economy by making it accessible to every Namibian, regardless of their socioeconomic background.”

The transformative technology will enable families to prepare meals with a significantly reduced carbon footprint, leading to improved air quality, mitigating health risks, and promoting a sustainable lifestyle.

Nasau further asserts that the widespread adoption of hydrogen gas stoves will have far-reaching socioeconomic implications by alleviating the burden of using conventional fuels such as charcoal and firewood, which he says often pose environmental, health, and financial challenges.

“As we strive for a greener future, it is essential to ensure that the benefits of clean energy solutions reach every corner of society. The collaboration between Kaoko Green Energy Solutions and Impact Hydrogen sets a remarkable example for other stakeholders in the green hydrogen sector to follow suit and develop inclusive strategies. By creating innovative products that directly impact the lives of individuals, we can inspire change and foster a sense of ownership among the common man, instilling confidence in their ability to contribute to a sustainable future,” he said.

This is the second MoU Kaoko is signing to position itself in the renewable energy sector, having already signed another with AW-Energy from Finland, to utilise ocean waves to produce electricity that will be a key addition and contributor to our national base load.
