FlyNamibia, TotalEnergies launch Eros – Lüderitz partnership flights

FlyNamibia launched flights connecting Eros Airport in Windhoek to Lüderitz on Wednesday through a partnership with TotalEnergies EP Namibia.

FlyNamibia will operate the Eros Airport – Lüderitz route every weekday (Mondays to Fridays).

The French energy giant is carrying out a multi-well appraisal and exploration drilling program, following the Venus light oil discovery in Block 2913B (PEL 56), located in the Orange Basin offshore southern Namibia.

TotalEnergies has allocated almost 50% of its global exploration budget of N$5.5 billion (US$300 million) to Namibia this year.

In May, FlyNamibia also announced an increase in frequencies to Oranjemund, with flights now operating five times per week, supported by Shell Namibia, Debmarine Namibia, and Westair.

Shell is currently conducting appraisal work on PEL-39 to determine the commercial viability of the hydrocarbon after announcing a significant discovery of light oil in the Jonker-1X deep-water exploration well in March. The well is located approximately 270 kilometers off the Namibian coast in the offshore region.

This comes as the Mines and Energy ministry has implored oil companies to base their operations at Luderitz and not Walvis Bay.

Currently, FlyNamibia operates domestic routes from Eros Airport in Windhoek to Ondangwa, Rundu, Katima Mulilo, Oranjemund, and now Lüderitz, as well as a regional route between Hosea Kutako International Airport and Cape Town International.
