Argeo completes deepwater work at TotalEnergies’ Venus project

Norwegian offshore services company Argeo has completed deepwater operations at TotalEnergies’ Venus project off the coast of Namibia.

The project, initially expected to be completed sooner, faced delays due to an extended yard stay and adverse weather conditions.

Argeo deployed its Argeo Venture vessel for the mission, which is now in the process of demobilization in Walvis Bay.

The demobilization is scheduled for completion by March 23, 2025.

The work formed part of a US$39 million contract awarded to Argeo by TotalEnergies in April 2024. The vessel commenced operations in Namibia on May 20, 2024, following its transit from Norway.

Despite challenges, the project spanned nearly 10 months, during which the Argeo Venture gathered over 7,000-line kilometers of autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) geophysical data and collected nearly 200 geotechnical samples in water depths exceeding 3,000 meters.

“The contract and work program reaffirm our capability to deliver top-tier deep-water services and demonstrated our ability to execute integrated geophysical and geotechnical projects, where the geotechnical component is derived from geophysical data that is efficiently processed on board,” Argeo said.

In December 2024, Argeo signed a five-year frame agreement with TotalEnergies for offshore site investigation services. The agreement includes the possibility of a two-year extension.
