Chevron Namibia Exploration Limited II (CNEL) has confirmed that it is advancing its prospect portfolio and is considering drilling an exploration well in the Petroleum Exploration Licence 82 (PEL 82) in the Walvis Basin, offshore Namibia, within the 2026/27 timeframe.

The announcement comes as part of the US energy giant’s ongoing strategy to bolster its exploration activities in the region.

“With this programme, Chevron continues to activate its strong and growing exploration portfolio. We remain excited about our exploration portfolio in Namibia and working with the Government and our partners to support the country’s energy sector,” the company said.

In February, Chevron finalised the acquisition of an 80% interest and operatorship in PEL 82 from Custos Energy.

Custos will retain a 10% interest in the licence, while the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) will hold the remaining 10%.

The Walvis Basin, located north of the prolific Orange Basin, has become a key focus area for international oil companies following a series of major discoveries by Shell, TotalEnergies, and Galp.
