Namibia’s mining sector recorded a modest recovery in July, with the Mining Production Composite Index rising by 0.2%, compared to a 9.3% decline in June, the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has reported.
On an annual basis, however, the index contracted by 2.9%.
The NSA said the monthly growth was mainly supported by higher production of zinc concentrate and diamonds, while gold bullion and uranium output weakened during the period under review.
“The Zinc Concentrate and Contained Production Index rose by 32.0% in July 2025, compared to a 29.9% decline observed in the preceding month. However, on a yearly basis, the index reduced by 6.3%,” the NSA said.
The Diamond Production Index grew by 13.3% in July 2025, following a 19.1% decline in June. Year-on-year, the index increased by 2.4%, according to the Agency.
By contrast, gold and uranium recorded declines. “The Gold Bullion Production Index declined by 5.1% in July 2025, following a 6.6% drop observed in June 2025. On a yearly basis, the index fell by 5.2%,” the NSA noted.
The Uranium Production Index contracted sharply, falling by 23.6% month-on-month, compared to growth of 18.3% in June. On an annual basis, the index was down by 13.5%, the NSA added.
