Galp has announced that Filipe Silva has resigned as Chief Executive Officer and Vice-President of the Board of Directors, citing family reasons.
The resignation, effective immediately, was communicated to the Chairman of the Board, Paula Amorim.
“I would like to emphasise the contribution Filipe has made to the company over the last 12 years, a period during which his dedication was important for Galp’s growth. Galp’s Executive Committee remains in the hands of a highly qualified team that will ensure the execution and implementation of the company’s strategy,” Amorim said.
Galp confirmed that it would announce its new executive leadership in the coming days.
Silva’s departure cuts short his four-year term, initially set to run until late 2026.
The announcement comes as Galp achieves a significant milestone in its Namibian operations.
Together with partners NAMCOR (Namibia’s National Petroleum Corporation) and Custos Energy, Galp (80%, operator) successfully drilled and logged the Mopane-2A well in Petroleum Exploration Licence 83 (PEL 83), located in Namibia’s Orange Basin.
The Mopane-2A well, spudded on December 2, revealed promising results. It discovered a hydrocarbon column of gas-condensate in the AVO-3 reservoir, with a thin net pay in the reservoir sweet spot, as well as a hydrocarbon column of light oil in the AVO-4 reservoir.
Both reservoirs were found to contain high-quality sands with strong porosity and permeability, minimal CO2 levels, and no H2S concentrations, characteristics indicative of a commercially viable resource.
PEL 83 spans nearly 10,000 square kilometres in the Orange Basin, located in southern Namibian waters near the border with South Africa. The basin has been a focal point of recent oil and gas discoveries, bolstering Namibia’s emerging status as a key exploration destination.
