Paladin Energy Ltd has temporarily halted all operations at its Langer Heinrich Mine in Namibia due to heavy rains which have impacted access to the site.
The uranium miner cited safety concerns for employees and contractors as the primary reason for the suspension.
“As a result of the weather event, access to the mine has been impacted, and all operations have been temporarily suspended. The full impact of the weather event and disruption to production will be assessed when conditions have stabilised. In assessing status, the safety of our people and contractors is our priority,” the company said.
Namibia has been experiencing unprecedented heavy rains, causing flooding in several areas.
The suspension follows Paladin’s recent decision to cut its full-year production guidance and withdraw all other guidance due to ongoing operational challenges.
Langer Heinrich Mine, located approximately 80km east of Swakopmund and 85km northeast of the Walvis Bay deepwater harbour, was discovered in 1973. Paladin acquired the mine from Aztec Resources Ltd in August 2002 and currently holds a 75% ownership stake in Langer Heinrich Uranium (Pty) Ltd.
The company has not provided a timeline for the resumption of operations but will assess production impacts once conditions improve.
