Diamonds lead Namibian mining exports in September

Products from Namibia’s mining and quarrying industry accounted for 44.3% of the country’s export revenue in September 2023. According to the latest trade statistics, the exports from this industry increased by N$1.3 billion month-on-month.

Precious stones, particularly diamonds, emerged as Namibia’s primary exported commodity in September 2023, constituting 22.4% of the total exports, with 4.7% being re-exports, as per the latest data from the Namibia Statistics Agency.

According to the data, diamonds found their primary destinations in Botswana, the United Arab Emirates, and Belgium.

The second-highest export in the list was uranium, accounting for 17.1% of the total export volume. The majority of these uranium exports were directed to China, Canada, and France.

Petroleum oils contributed 6.3% of the country’s export revenue, of which 5.3% were re-exports. According to the trade figures, petroleum oils were primarily destined for Botswana.

Petroleum oils topped the list of imported goods for the month of September 2023, with a share of 23.7% of the total import value.

In September 2023, Namibia’s exports amounted to N$7.8 billion, while imports reached N$11.1 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of N$3.3 billion for the country.

During September 2023, exports increased by 5.3% from the N$7.4 billion recorded in August 2023. Additionally, exports decreased by 11.2% from the N$8.7 billion registered in September 2022.
